Rembrandt exhibition gives area $13M boost

More than $350,000 in local tax revenue was generated through occupancy, food and beverage and sales taxes, while more than $600,000 in state sales taxes was generated, officials said.

"Rembrandt in America’s significant economic impact is further proof that the city of Raleigh and the Triangle region are on the leading edge of cultural arts,” museum Director Larry Wheeler said in a statement.

The three-month exhibition, which closed in late January, drew 150,905 attendees from all 100 North Carolina counties and all 50 states, plus 42 foreign countries. About 56 percent of the attendees came from outside the Triangle.

“Travelers from right here in North Carolina, from across the United States and from all around the world know and appreciate that arts, culture and creativity make for dynamic communities and support a strong business climate,” state Cultural Resources Secretary Linda Carlisle said in a statement.
