Garner High principal finalist for state honor

The principal at Garner Magnet High School is one of eight finalists for the 2012 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year, officials said Wednesday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The principal at Garner Magnet High School is one of eight finalists for the 2012 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year, officials said Wednesday.

Drew Cook and the other finalists will be reviewed by a state committee, including visits to their schools, and the award winner will be announced on April 5.

The other finalists are Clay Wagner of Riverside High School in Martin County, Kelly Withers of Jesse Carson High School in Rowan County, Glenn Reed of Blue Creek Elementary School in Onslow County, Hilda Batts of A.T. Allen Elementary School in Cabarrus County, Sara Bigley of Pinehurst Elementary School in Moore County, Patrice Faison of Oak Hill Elementary School in Guilford County and Brad Teague of East Rutherford Middle School in Rutherford County.

The winner will receive $3,000 for personal use or professional development and another $3,000 for his or her school to purchase materials or other equipment. The winner also will serve a one-year term as adviser to the State Board of Education. The eight regional winners each receive $1,000 for personal use and $1,000 for their schools.
