Soldier from Fort Bragg last to die in Iraq war

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — An Army specialist from Fort Bragg will go down in the history books as the last American soldier to die in the war in Iraq.

Spc. David Hickman, a 23-year-old paratrooper on his first deployment to Iraq, was killed Nov. 14 by a roadside bomb in Baghdad, the Department of Defense announced Friday.

Hickman grew up in Greensboro and was a stand-out football player at Northeast Guilford.
