DURHAM, N.C. — The three-year-old Durham Performing Arts Center hit a big milestone Saturday when the 1,000,000th visitor walked through the doors.

Dawn Cooper got an upgraded seat for the performance of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular Saturday and a golden ticket that will get her back in for future Broadway shows.

Cooper is from Maryland, but she said she'd definitely return to redeem her prize.

The DPAC drew 500,000 visitors in the first two years after its opening in November 2008, then another 500,000 in the past year.

It has hosted more than 150 sold-out events, including Disney's "The Lion King" musical and shows by singer Neil Young and comedian Martin Lawrence.

The DPAC was recently ranked as the No. 9 theater in the country by Pollstar magazine, placing it on the same list as the Radio City Music Hall in New York and the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

It's the largest performing arts center in the Carolinas, with 2,800 seats.
