CARY, N.C. — Time is running out for parents to enroll their children in the Wake County Public School System for the 2012-2013 school year.

Families have just eight business days left to enroll students in the system before traditional-calendar schools begin on Aug. 27, the system said in a release Friday afternoon.

To enroll children, parents should visit the Office of Student Assignment at 5625 Dillard Drive in Cary between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. All families that have arrived and taken a place in line by 3 p.m. will be served the same business day.

Parents should expect to spend at least two hours at the office completing the registration process, the system said. Forms are available online in English and Spanish to help make the registration process smoother.

Although children do not have to be present, parents should bring the following:

  • Parent of legal guardian's photo ID
  • Proof of residence (a current electric, gas or water bill; a signed lease or closing statement in the name of the parent(s) or court-appointed custodian. Telephone bills, cable television bills and driver's licenses are not accepted.)
  • A certified copy of the child's birth certificate, which can be obtained from the county or state health department where the child was born.

After receiving an assignment, parents will be required to provide their children's immunization records to the school.
