<b>RALEIGH, N.C.</b> — Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School will not begin its school year as scheduled Monday due to problems with the air conditioning system, Wake County Public School System officials announced Sunday evening. 

In a statement released Sunday night, the school system said Monday's high temperatures, which could reach the upper 90s, and a desire to keep children safe forced the decision to close the school until Tuesday.

Southeast Raleigh principal John Wall sent a broadcast phone message Sunday night to notify families about the closing. Updated information about the closure will be <a href="http://www.wcpss.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted on the Wake Count Public School System and Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School websites</a>.

Southeast Raleigh was one of five schools in Wake County scheduled to open Monday on the modified calendar. No other schools are impacted by the change.

According to the Danville Police Department, officers received a tip of prior animal abuse at a pet grooming store on Hairston Street in Danville. In the complaint, a video showed the employee, identified as 22-year-old Cassidy Gill, striking a dog in January and February.
