Warren schools re-examining policies after students left on buses
Warren County Schools administrators say they are taking a closer look at their policies after two recent cases in which students were overlooked by school bus drivers and left on buses.
Posted — UpdatedA first-grader at Mariam Boyd Elementary School was left on a school bus for an hour on Sept. 28, but administrators did not become aware of it until mid-November after someone outside the school asked a school board member about it.
Upon further investigation, the district learned that transportation director McDonald Yancey reprimanded the driver but did not notify administrators.
In October, a child at Northside Elementary School was left on the bus for nearly six hours.
Both drivers were suspended for a week without pay and placed on a probationary work status for the remainder of the school year.
School administrators said they are taking a close look at revising policies to more clearly address what can happen to bus drivers in these types of cases.
Citing personnel issues, administrators would not comment if Yancey was disciplined. He declined to comment Wednesday.
