New Wake regional library could open next year

A new regional library could open in northeast Raleigh as early as late 2015.

The Northeast Regional Library will serve the rapidly growing northeast Raleigh and Wake Forest area and surely will take a load off the busy Wake Forest Community Library.

The library, made possible with funds from the 2003 bond referendum, will bring a 20,000-square-foot facility to the growing region, Terri M. Luke, senior manager for Wake County library system's facilities and security, tells me. 

The building will sit at the intersection of Green Elm Lane and Forest Pines Drive with easy access from Capital Boulevard by way of Falls of Neuse Road or Common Oaks Drive. A ground breaking is expected in late August or early September. The library is expected to open in late 2015 or early 2016, Luke said.

The building, which sits on a ridge, will be V-shaped with youth services in one wing and adult services in the other wing. The youth wing will include programming space, computers, the youth book collection, a service desk, a family friendly restroom, public restrooms and a meeting room. The adult wing includes a quiet reading room, computers, the adult collection, a service desk and more public restrooms.
