Data from a recently released report on feelings toward the hybrid workplace shows some Americans would be more receptive to returning to the workplace if a few perks were added.

The results come as many are still working from home as a result of distancing measures implemented by companies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Rosslyn Business Improvement District's findings on a survey among more than 1,000 Americans revealed that more than 70% of employees are going into the office as part of a hybrid work schedule. A third are working outside at coworking spaces, their homes, or rented homes.

While 70% of employees are going into the office as part of their hybrid work schedules, two in five Americans are using alternative places to work besides the home and office such as:

  • Outdoors: 14%
  • Coworking space: 10%
  • Rented Airbnb/VRBO: 8%
  • Coffee shops: 4%
  • Libraries: 2%

A total of 58% said they are interested in the opportunity to connect with their co-workers in an outdoor office space during the work week. Furthermore, 74% of younger professionals are interested in exploring an outdoor office space with those living in the northeast most interested. Three in four respondents say regular access to an outdoor office space would promote productivity at work.

Amenities ranging from snacks to outdoor workspaces were selected when participants were asked what would encourage them to go back to work in person or in the office.

  • Coffee, food, snacks: 42%
  • Access to wellness and mental health amenities: 36%
  • More comfortable furniture: 35%
  • Access to outdoor workspaces: 33%
