Businesses upset over proposed downtown parking fee increase
RALEIGH, N.C. — Visitors to downtown Raleigh on Friday and Saturday nights will have to pay for parking in four decks beginning Jan. 1.

Raleigh City Council members approved fee changes to four decks – Wilmington Street Station, 117 S. Wilmington St.; Moore Square, 233 S. Wilmington St.; City Center, 429 S. Wilmington St.; Municipal, 201 W. Morgan St. – in November.

A $5 flat fee will be levied at the four decks beginning at 5 p.m. every Friday and Saturday and continuing until 7 a.m. the following day. Drivers will pay the fee when entering the decks. The additional revenue will be used to help offset deck maintenance costs

Parking in the four decks will remain free from 7 a.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday and after 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Fees at the other downtown Raleigh decks will also remain the same.

Additionally, on-street parking will continue to be free after 5 p.m. during the week and all day on weekends.

Raleigh will also continue to charge special event fees of $5 or $7 to park in city decks when special events are being held downtown.
