As Go Ask Mom readers know, I write a lot about local children's consignment sales. I wanted to let you know about a new, upcoming consignment sale just for women.

The sale called Designer Consignors is open to the public Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in Cary. It was started by friends and moms Alice White and Gina Ausley, who figured that since children's consignment sales were so popular, one for women might be a hit too.

White tells me she's been shopping children's sales since 1995 and had heard other consignors wonder why there wasn't something for them too.

"I thought it was a great idea and said if it was going to work anywhere, it would work in the Triangle," she tells me. "So here we go!"

The sale accepts clothes in sizes 0 to 3x, along with shoes, handbags, jewelry and accessories. They won't accept clothes bought at stores such as Walmart and Kmart. They will take name brand, designer clothing from stores such as Talbots and Belk. The sale prefers clothing that's no more than four years old, though classic pieces in excellent condition will be accepted.

The sale is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sept 30, and 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (when some items will be half off), on Oct. 1. Volunteers and consignors will have a chance to shop early. It will be held at the Cary Masonic Lodge, 1142 Southeast Maynard Rd.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit women with ovarian cancer. September is ovarian cancer awareness month. The sale has partnered with local gynecologic oncologist Dr. Monica Jones and will be passing out pamphlets about ovarian cancer at the sale. There is no screening for the disease, which is often referred to as the silent killer. Click here to learn more.

I've added it to our list of children's consignment sales in the region.
