Seuss & Sailor, a new children's consignment store in Wake Forest, has opened in the Food Lion shopping center near the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Highway 98.
It sits next to another resale store - Solara's Closet, which is owned by the same owner. Solara's Closet focuses on trendy clothing for women and juniors, along with monogramming. It opened about two years ago.

Owner Lindsey Smith, a mom of five, said customers had been asking her to carry children's clothes. Smith said she expanded the original store a bit earlier this year and added a few racks of clothes for kids. They sold quickly.

So Smith decided to open a children's shop next door. Just a few weeks after opening, Smith tells me that business is good.

"We've had a wonderful response from the kids side already," she said.

She plans to expand her popular monogramming business in the extra space left over in Solara's Closet now that the children's clothes have moved to the new store.

Seuss & Sailor carries sizes newborn to 16. Prices are generally between $1.99 and $12. Customers can buy one item, get the second item for half price as long as the pieces are the same size.

For the kids, there's Seuss, the parrot, to entertain them. And Smith has ordered some iPad Minis so kids can play while mom shops.

Smith is bringing in professional storyteller Claire Ramsey on Monday mornings through August. The 45-minute program is for kids of all ages and begins at 10:30 a.m.

You can find Seuss & Sailor at 12243 Capital Blvd.
