NC Wanted: Police request public's assistance in locating van involved in hit-and-run

Tilghman was on his way to school when he was hit by a van on Stadium Drive. He suffered several broken bones but survived the incident.

Police say the driver stopped for only a minute, then sped away, leaving behind a clue that has yet to produce a suspect.

“We’re just relieved that it wasn’t more serious that it was,” said Bill Crabtree, of the Wake Forest Police Department. “But again, that’s why we’re calling on the person who’s responsible to step forward and do the right thing.”

The impact knocked the rearview mirror off the vehicle, which police believe belongs to a dark-colored Chevrolet Express 15-passenger van.

“That’s going to be an important piece because we’re hoping that people in the community will see a van that matches that description that’s missing that driver’s side mirror,” Crabtree said.

However, the incident occurred seven months ago, and the van may have undergone repairs since striking Tilghman.

Police say they hope anyone who noticed a damaged van matching the description will come forward.
