RALEIGH, N.C. — Police at North Carolina State University are responding after two weapons were brought to campus in only three days and someone reported a person with a gun at N.C. State's library.

The most recent incident was Tuesday, when N.C. State police responded to the D.H. Hill Library at 2 Broughton Drive.

Staff reported that an older man in a cream-colored jacket set off the metal detector while entering the library. When stopped by police, the man stated that he had a gun in his backpack and then left the building through the north door.

According to police, the man was uncooperative "but did not commit a criminal offense." The man was banned from campus and will be arrested for second-degree trespassing if he returns, an N.C. State spokesperson said.

The D.H. Hill incident came just a day after two men were charged with bringing weapons on campus.

Sulaiman's attorney told WRAL News it was an accident, explaining that Sulaiman forgot he had the weapon in his backseat.

On Monday, Marvin Louis Spruill, 38, was charged with misdemeanor bringing a gun on educational property. According to an arrest warrant, Spruill had a 9 mm gun outside of student housing on Greek Village Drive.

The university's police chief on Friday issued a statement about the incidents, writing:

"The incidents we’ve responded to in recent days did not pose a threat to the community, with both individuals being cooperative, and the firearms were never used or displayed against anyone."

According to N.C. State, firearms are generally prohibited on all university property, including firearms possessed openly or concealed and any gun, rifle, pistol or other firearm.

Violations can result in criminal charges.

Anyone with information about the incidents or who sees suspicious activity is asked to call N.C. State University Police at 919-515-3000.
