NC State Fair Roundup: Sunday Edition

Bacon fans! The first place winner in the N.C. Peanut Tailgating Recipe Contest was Gail Fuller with her recipe for Peanut Butter Bacon Sliders. Check out the recipe at http://www.ncstatefair.org/2012/Newsroom/releases/10-12Peanuts.htm .

I guess I should not have been surprised, but one of the first sights I saw after I got to the Fair was Rockit the Robot, and he was dancing to -- you guessed it -- "Gangnam Style." Score one for Robot-Pop.

Taking a walk down the midway there didn't seem to a particular character that's featured in a lot of prizes. In previous years Spongebob Squarepants has showed up in an number of incarnations, but this year I didn't see him around too much. Nor was the Fair overrun with Angry Birds characters like last year. This year Stewie (from "Family Guy") continues his run as a favorite, and there are lots of Smurfs to be found. And how come I saw plenty of Batman prizes but nothing from The Avengers? One day I'd like to do a blog post on how the licensing for Fair prizes works...

If you're over near Kiddieland Park keep an eye out for Jim Cruise, aka The Spoon Man - his shows are at 10am, 1pm, and 4pm. I caught the end of his shows a couple of times Friday and he was a lot of fun, keeping the crowd energized.

Are we going to get a million this year? The weekend weather has been absolutely gorgeous but it looks like we're in for some rain during the week. Of course, no matter how much it rains on Monday I don't think that's going to keep fans away from the sold out Scotty McCreery concert! I imagine it'll be just as crazy as when Clay Aiken played the Fair in 2004.
