RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina State University researchers have created insecticide-free clothing that prevents people from being bit by mosquitos.
The clothing is able to prevent 100% of mosquito bites when worn, one study shows.
To test the clothing, a research volunteer wore the clothing in a cage with 200 live mosquitos.
The innovation is intended to be commercially sold in the United States, according to a news release.
Researchers hope that their clothing will prevent mosquito-transmitted diseases, like yellow fever.
The clothing is a knitted, woven fabric and form-fitting. The material was initially envisioned as a shirt for military personnel, a release says.
