NC's unemployment rate holds steady at 5.4 percent in January
The number of people listed as unemployed in North Carolina dropped by 1,161 in the first month of 2015, but the state's unemployment rate held steady at 5.4 percent during January, according to data released Tuesday by the state Department of Commerce.

North Carolina's jobless rate remains slightly lower than the national average, which was 5.7 percent in January.
The state's labor force – the number of people employed plus those actively looking for work – increased by 21,497 in January, to 4,646,793. The number of people listed as unemployed fell by 1,161, from 250,027 in December to 248,866 in January.
Employers in construction, manufacturing and leisure and hospitality services recorded major job gains in the month, but trade, transportation and utilities, information and government sectors recorded losses, according to seasonally-adjusted data released Tuesday.
The state unemployment rate is down 1.2 percentage points since January 2014.
