NC's northern counties still recovering from Saturday's ice damage

On Sunday, Duke Energy reported fewer than 35,000 outages as crews continued work to repair downed power lines drooping beneath the weight of the ice or knocked down by fallen trees. On Monday morning, over 10,000 were still without power, mainly in Person, Granville and Vance counties.

More rain is on tap for Monday, but it arrive until the evening. We could see some much-needed drying-out time during the day.

"We'll see drier conditions in the morning, and even in the afternoon," WRAL meteorologist Zach Maloch said.

Temperatures should start in the mid-to-upper 30s. Highs on Monday will get back into the 40s, so expect a milder day than we've had this weekend.

The rain isn't expected to be out of the area until well into Tuesday morning.

Maloch detailed just how much rain we've seen so far in 2021, explaining that 26 of the 45 days, or 58%, have seen rain at RDU.

The WRAL temperature map doesn't show a report for Roxboro, Henderson and South Hill – the areas still without power are unable to send updated temperatures.
