<b>REIDSVILLE, N.C.</b> — Authorities said that a 14-year-old is charged with murder in connection to his cousin's shooting death.

Officers with the Reidsville Police Department arrived to a neighborhood on Thursday and described a chaotic scene, according to Reidsville Police Lt. Shannon Coats.

The 10-year-old girl who was killed was a fifth-grade student at South End Elementary School.

<a href="https://www.wxii12.com/article/reidsville-girl-shot-first-degree-murder-charge/41135237" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Coats told WXII</a> that he anticipates the boy's charges will be dropped or lowered after authorities investigate further.

Investigators are still looking into how the 14-year-old boy was able to get his hands on a gun.
