NC near top in rank of emergency preparedness

Some states are better prepared for public health emergencies than others.

Some states are better prepared for public health emergencies than others.

The Trust for America's Health finds that Massachusetts leads the way in emergency preparedness, scoring a perfect ten on its list of key indicators, things like sustained funding for health services, emergency supplies and facilities to be used during disasters.

North Carolina and Washington state were next, scoring nines.

Twenty-seven states and Washington, D.C., scored 6 or below, with Alaska and Idaho with the lowest scores.

5 out of 10: Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, West Virginia

4 out of 10: Nevada, Wyoming

3 out of 10: Alaska, Idaho
