Gov. Roy Cooper on Thursday joined other Democratic leaders in North Carolina in calling for President Trump's removal from office. It’s a chorus that has been growing among lawmakers who were at the Capitol on Wednesday when a mob broke in, derailed and delayed the formal certification of the November election.

Rep. Alma Adams (D-12) made the same call, urging Vice President Mike Pence and the president’s cabinet to remove him from office under the 25th Amendment, which allows for removal if a president is considered mentally unfit for the job.

Adams said the riots were predictable, but the Capitol wasn't prepared for them.

"I don’t think we took seriously enough what we had been hearing weeks and weeks and weeks, that these folks were coming," she said. "We knew that we were going – this was the day to certify, and this was the day that the president sent out this invitation to these folks to come, and they came from all over."
Adams also called on her Republican colleagues to back President Trump’s removal. She said denouncing violence is a good thing, but their failure to push back against the president’s conspiracy theories and increasingly inflammatory rhetoric over the past few weeks made that violence more likely, she said.

WRAL News reached out to each of the 10 Republican members of the North Carolina Congressional delegation. Not one agreed to an interview about the riots or the party's role in them.
