The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh will host a Teen Volunteer Fair from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m,. Thursday.

During the event, teens can learn more about youth opportunities at the museum, get answers to their questions about the volunteer application and meet current teen volunteers.

Volunteer opportunities at the museum include, according to the museum:

  • Junior Volunteers – Junior Volunteers are teenagers who are passionate about sharing science and the natural world with Museum visitors. Junior Volunteers assist and interact with Museum visitors, enhancing the visitor experience and sharing their natural history knowledge.
  • Junior Curators – Junior Curators are volunteers with an intense interest in natural science and animal husbandry. Volunteer responsibilities include assisting in the care and feeding of live animals, natural history educational programs and participation in Museum special events.
  • Teen Newsroom – This program will enable teens to showcase their talents and skills in science communication and multimedia journalism. Working with Museum staff, participants will learn to combine text, images, sound, videos and graphics into exciting content to share with the public.
  • Café Coordinators – The Café Coordinator group is responsible for hosting the Museum’s monthly Teen Science Cafés from October through April. These cafes allow students to build leadership skills by working with presenters and assisting in the planning and implementation of related activities.
The event takes place at the museum's Nature Research Center, 121 W Jones St. in downtown Raleigh. It's free. You don't need to sign up. Parents are welcome to attend. This is one of several programs for teens at the museum.
