National Train Day stops in Cary Saturday

National Train Day will feature displays, videos and more about train travel in the United States. And kids can watch a train chug into the station too.

And here's another weekend event that didn't make it into my Weekend Plans post:
Downtown Cary will host National Train Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Downtown Railroad Station, 211 N. Academy St.

It all starts just before 10 a.m. as the Cary Town Band plays selections to welcome Amtrak Carolinian train No. 80 around 10:02 a.m.

After a welcome from Cary officials, the station will offer displays, videos, food vendors, giveaways and more. I know the Cary Creative Center will be there with some crafts. (They'll also have a free Collage A Palooza at their nearby center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday. Visitors can make a collage using materials found at the center).

Amtrak started National Train Day in 2008 to share information about the advantages of train travel and the history of trains in the United States.
