National Guard Helicopter Lands Near Farmers Market
A National Guard helicopter made a precautionary landing near the State Farmers' Market in Raleigh early Saturday afternoon.
Posted — UpdatedNo one in the helicopter or on the ground was injured in the landing, according to a spokeswoman with Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
An Apache helicopter took off from RDU on a routine weekend training flight, said Maj. Matt Handley with the North Carolina National Guard.
Warning lights came on, and the crew decided to land, Handley said.
The helicopter crew made a safe landing in a large field on the Dorothea Dix Hospital property, about 200 yards from the market.
The incident is classified as a precautionary, not an emergency landing, Handley said.
The pilot and co-pilot were the only ones on board, Handley said.
