WILSON, N.C. — The NAACP is taking action against Wilson County District Attorney Howard Boney Jr.

The civil rights group filed a complaint accusing the district attorney. of misconduct in the case against James Johnson.

Johnson is charged in the 2004 kidnaping and murder of 17-year-old Brittany Willis. Authorities said Willis was kidnapped from the parking lot of the Brentwood Shopping Center in Wilson before she was shot to death in a nearby field.

Kenneth Meeks, who has confessed to the crime, said Johnson is innocent.
