N.C. Symphony's Halloween Spooktacular returns Saturday

The concert features music from Harry Potter and Star Wars, including some spooky storytelling and ends with a Halloween costume parade.

The N.C. Symphony is gearing up for its first Young People's Concert of the season on Saturday.

The Halloween Spooktacular, an hour-long concert designed for kids ages 4 to 12 and their adults, will feature the music from Harry Potter, Star Wars and other popular favorites. Award-winning storyteller and North Carolina native Connie Regan-Blake will read children's tales full of "creepy twists and chilling villains," or so the symphony's website says.

Concerts are 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., Saturday, at the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh. The symphony will roll out its Instrument Zoo from noon to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Kids will be able to try out a variety of instruments (my seven-year-old always really enjoys this).

Kids can dress in their Halloween costumes and take part in a Halloween costume parade on stage at the end of the concerts. Tickets are $20 each. Click here for details and tickets.

I have said this before and I'll say it again: I can't recommend these concerts highly enough. They really are a great way to expose kids to classical music. Lots of fun, always interactive. I'll be there on Saturday with my own kids!

The Instrument Zoo actually is part of a free event that will take place in the main lobby of the Progress Energy Center from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday.

ARTStober offers a sampler of performances offered at the center all year. You'll find activities from Marbles, Paint Savvy face painters and a variety of performances. Sounds like a fun way to spend the afternoon.
