N.C. State vet school opens door to public for annual family-friendly event

The annual open house at the N.C. State University College of Veterinary Medicine is set for March 29.

This very popular event features a variety of fun activities for families. There are things to keep young kids busy like a teddy bear clinic, live animals and a carnival with games and other activities. And there are opportunities for older kids and teens, who are considering a career in veterinary medicine, to ask some questions.

This year, the event will feature "Animal Connections - Our Journey Together," a special traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institute. The 1,000-square-foot science museum aims to inspire the next generation of veterinarians. It uses a combination of interactive learning stations, films, touch screen videos and 3D settings to explore topics about animals in the home, on the farm, in the wild, at the zoo and at the veterinary clinic, according to a press release.

The open house also features more than 50 demonstrations, display exhibits and presentations about advances in veterinary medicine, veterinary medical technology, discoveries from recent research, best care practices for the family pet and more.
