Mt. Olive Police Issue Murder Warrant For Suspect In Shooting

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — Mount Olive police have issued a murder warrant for a man who they suspect shot and killed a woman while she was in an apartment last week.

Police charged Richard Lee Swinson, 26, with one count of murder and two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling in connection with the death of Jennifer Louise McAuthur, 22. They have not located Swinson, however.

McArthur was killed when one of several bullets fired from the parking area of a local apartment complex went through the wall of the apartment and struck her on June 30.

Investigators said McArthur was visiting friends at the Mount Olive Court Apartments when she was struck by a bullet during a hail of gunfire.

"The bullets came through the walls and the windows," Mount Olive Police Chief Emmett Bellree said. "She was struck, and she died shortly thereafter."

Police said that Swinson should be considered armed and dangerous. Swinson is thought to be in the Goldsboro, Mar Mac or Dudley area, police said.

No other occupants of the apartment were injured.
