Mt. Merrill at Durham Central Park slides
Just in time for the warm weather, Mount Merrill, the hillside slides and play mound at Durham Central Park, has some new shades.

The shades provide some needed shade for the metal slides. The play mound offers kids a diversion at the park in downtown Durham, which offers a farmers' market, food truck rodeos and other events. The next food truck rodeo is June 21. The Durham Farmers' Market is 8 a.m. to noon, Saturdays, and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, right now.

Mount Merrill was built thanks to support from across the community. It's named after Merrill Davis, whose family owns the neighborhood nursery and garden store, Stone Brothers & Byrd. Davis, who was one of the park's biggest supporters, died in a car accident in 2012. His 2009 wedding was one of the first in the park's pavilion.
