Mt. Merrill adds shades over its slides
Just in time for the warm weather, Mt. Merrill, the hillside slides and play mound at Durham Central Park, has some new shades.
Posted — UpdatedThe shades provide some needed shade for the metal slides. The play mound offers kids a diversion at the park in downtown Durham, which offers a farmers' market, food truck rodeos and other events. The next food truck rodeo is June 21. The Durham Farmers' Market is 8 a.m. to noon, Saturdays, and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, right now.
Mount Merrill was built thanks to support from across the community. It's named after Merrill Davis, whose family owns the neighborhood nursery and garden store, Stone Brothers & Byrd. Davis, who was one of the park's biggest supporters, died in a car accident in 2012. His 2009 wedding was one of the first in the park's pavilion.
