MORRISVILLE, N.C. — A Raleigh woman was charged Monday in a head-on collision on Interstate 540 last week that killed a motorcyclist.

Kanak Lata Singh, 28, of 8004 Neches Lane, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to maintain lane control, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Singh's westbound car crossed the median into the eastbound lanes near the Interstate 40 interchange on Aug. 3 and hit a motorcycle head-on, killing Philip James Sabino, 44, of Raleigh.

An accident report released by the Highway Patrol doesn't say what caused Singh's car to cross the median, noting only that she over-corrected. Troopers previously said she wasn't speeding and that alcohol wasn't a factor in the crash.
