Motor vehicle break-ins on the rise in Fayetteville
In the first 14 days of October, 99 vehicle break-ins had been reported. Some happened because people left cars unlocked, police said.

Police have adopted two programs aimed at preventing vehicle break-ins and thefts. The Park Smart program reminds people to lock their doors and remove valuables from their cars.
Residents may also register for the A.T.A.C. (Auto Theft Action Campaign) at the Fayetteville Police Department. An A.T.A.C. decal gives officers permission to stop a vehicle between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. to verify ownership.
