MURFREESBORO, N.C. — A mother and her two children were killed late Wednesday when their Northampton County mobile home was destroyed by fire, authorities said.

Authorities from Northampton and Hertford counties responded to the fire at about 11:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 258 near Murfreesboro. By the time they arrived, the mobile home was engulfed in flames, they said.

The bodies of Sarah Vann, her 11-year-old son, Chase, and her 2-year-old daughter, Saphira, were later found in the master bedroom, authorities said.

Robert Parker, Vann's cousin, said the dryer was next to the bedroom and sparked the blaze.

Investigators have not confirmed what started the fire, but said it appeared to be accidental.

"What the family needs now is prayer, prayer, prayer," Parker said.

The Northampton County Sheriff's Office and the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating.
