Mother says son not part of murder-for-hire plot

Franklin County authorities say Rhonda Maclean was shot in the face in the early-morning hours of Aug. 16 while she was investigating a noise in her Youngsville home.

Robbery was likely a motive, Franklin County Sheriff Jerry Jones has said, and Shannon Nyamodi, 18, and a 15-year-old girl were arrested in the case.

The police report goes on to include details that another man provided to the officer.

The man, whose name was redacted from the report, told police that he heard from "a kid" that Maclean's daughter and Nyamodi had planned the robbery and shooting "for a couple weeks." The kid also told him that the daughter had been having sex with Nyamodi, giving him money and getting him "hooked" on oxycodone and other pills.

"He has no evidence that places my son as the person who pulled the trigger. He has told many fabrications and many lies," Nyamodi's mother, Elizabeth Crudup, said after her son's first court appearance on Monday.

"It's very fortunate that we have a court of law. This sheriff has decided to try this case in the court of public opinion," Crudup said.

Nyamodi is charged with attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and larceny of a firearm.

The girl also faces charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and larceny of a firearm.
