MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Morrisville’s athletic center is temporarily closed following a chlorine leak Wednesday morning that was caused by a malfunctioning pump.

Town officials said the 20-gallon leak at the Morrisville Aquatics and Fitness Center, at 1301 Morrisville Parkway, was stopped and cleaned up quickly by the town’s fire and police departments, with assistance from Raleigh’s hazardous materials team.

No injuries were reported, and there was no significant damage to the building, officials said. However, the center will remain closed until late afternoon or evening because of a strong chlorine odor.

Patrons of the center, which is owned by the town, should call 919-463-6900 to confirm when it has reopened.
