RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Secretary of State's Office is investigating a Mooresville man for possible investment fraud.

Shelby Dean Martin, 70, is accused of acting as a securities broker when he is not registered in the state to sell securities, according to court documents.

Martin, who operates several entities that include D. Martin Enterprises, is accused of losing hundreds of thousands of dollars from at least six people in Iredell County who invested with him, documents show.

The Secretary of State’s Office used search warrants on Tuesday to obtain Martin’s bank records.
