Beach season is upon us, and we asked the folks in the newsroom to share with us their own beach-related Five Faves! Five on Your Side's Monica Laliberte gave us her Five Favorite Beaches.

Ocracoke Island (Photo by Bill Leslie)
Ocracoke Island - Love, love, LOVE the DUNES! Plus-- miles of undeveloped beaches!

Ft. Fisher State Park - Again, I love that there are no buildings, EXCEPT for the park restrooms, showers and snack bar, which are especially nice if you have young children!

Kure Beach - Beautiful beach front homes, no high rises, not crowded!
The Kure Beach Pier's history started with L. C. Kure, who built the first pier in 1923. His grandson, Mike, has owned the pier since 1984. The current Kure Beach Pier is 750-feet long and 22-feet wide. It stands 25-feet above the sea.
Holden Beach -  Since the beach runs east to west, you can catch the sunrise AND sunset!
Update: Whoops! As many of our commenters noticed, we were short one beach on Monica's list. WRAL Out & About would never leave you hanging, and neither would WRAL Five On Your Side's Monica Laliberte. WIthout further adieu, here's what Monica has to say about a fifth choice: "if it doesn't have to be in NC, my TOP pick would be ANY BEACH in St. John/ Virgin Islands. Crystal torquoise water - white, secluded beaches... paradise! In North Carolina, I guess my fifth NC beach would be The Point at Emerald Isle. Beautiful."

Look for more of our Five Faves Beach picks next week!
Are you headed to the beach this holiday weekend?
