LOUISBURG, N.C. — Franklin County authorities are investigating the theft of more than $7,000 from the residents of a Louisburg assisted living center.

Sheriff Jerry Jones said the money was in accounts for more than a dozen residents of Autumn Wind Retirement Home, on Leonard Road. The residents used the money for personal items and medication.

Autumn Wind recently changed ownership, and Jones said it's unclear whether the money was missing before that.

Autumn Wind of Roseboro is not affiliated with the Louisburg facility.
