The Senate's budget was rolled out Monday night. Senate leaders said their budget is smaller ($21.47 billion), more fiscally conservative and includes Medicaid reform - along with many policy previsions.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — The Senate’s budget was rolled out Monday night. Senate leaders said their budget is smaller ($21.47 billion), more fiscally conservative and includes Medicaid reform – along with many policy previsions.
With Medicaid reform, senators want it completed in two years (versus six hears in the House), contract with a mix of managed care or provided care entities, have a mix of statewide and regional contracts so participants have multiple plans to choose from and create a separate authority to run the program.
Other budget highlights include:
- No across-the-board raises for state employees, but some will receive raises, including state troopers, magistrates and some teachers.
- Changing the state Department of Environmental and Natural Resources to a regulatory agency named the Department of Environmental Quality.
- Lowering K-3 class sizes but eliminate most teacher assistants.
