MomsRising: Event celebrates family-friendly companies
Carolina Parent's 2012 Women@Work breakfast honors 50 N.C. companies that offer flexibility, generous benefits, innovative programs, and other perks to make it easier for parents to juggle the demands of work and family.
Posted — UpdatedJuggling! You’d think we were at a circus with all the talk about juggling that happens when moms get together. Whether you work outside the home, stay home with your children, or do something in between, balancing work and family is a constant juggling act and impacts us all.
Last week, I was privileged to share a moms’ night with an incredible group of women who literally laughed and cried as we shared our stories of the challenges we face in making it all work.
One thing stood out: Having a supportive, family-friendly workplace can make all the difference.
In addition to recognizing these incredible companies, this will be a powerful networking opportunity for moms looking to reenter the work force or grow their professional connections.
Here are the details:
The breakfast will feature:
- a Coffee & Connections networking hour between 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. to meet other professionals, visit vendor tables and register for exclusive door prizes. Local MomsRising members will be there working the booth with the NC Families Care coalition, a statewide coalition dedicated to building a NC where workers, families, and businesses thrive by supporting more family-friendly workplace policies. Come by and see us!
- Keynote speaker, nationally acclaimed author Elissa Schappell! Shappell is a contributing editor for Vanity Fair magazine, is the author of Blueprints for Building Better Girls, which appeared on the Wall Street Journal's list of Best Books of 2011, and was nominated for the PEN/Hemmingway Award for her first book Use Me. She speaks to a generation of contemporary women about the identity myths and truths that they have lived with for decades.
- A recognition of the 2012 NC Family-Friendly 50 Companies selected in partnership with UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Attendees are encouraged to donate a suit or other pieces of professional clothing to special guest, Dress for Success Triangle NC, which provides gently worn professional clothing to women in need of interview and work attire.
It’s a joy to join in honoring these companies who are taking the lead in proving that being a good employee and being a good parent doesn’t have to be an either/or proposition. Hope some of you can make it!
