Missing woman returns to Cary group home
A missing woman who was the subject of Silver Alert after she left a Cary group home returned safely Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Authorities issued the alert early Monday for 25-year-old Shimir Renee Blount, who is cognitively impaired, after she left Victory Residential Services, at 1002 Wilshire Drive, around 1:30 a.m.
Blount returned shortly before noon. She had taken a taxi to Raleigh without notifying anyone and returned when she heard about the Silver Alert, authorities said.
Blount was the subject of a Silver Alert almost a year ago when she went missing from another group home at 2726 Newsome St. in Raleigh.
Developed in 2007, the Silver Alert system quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.
It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
