CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A missing 15-year-old and her 6-month-old son might be in the company of a man wanted in the murder of a Durham teen, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Joanna Cano and her son, Angel Villegas Cano, were reported missing by Joanna's mother. They were last seen around 8 a.m. Wednesday at a residence on University Station Road, north of Chapel Hill in Orange County.

Investigators believe Joanna and Angel might be in the company of Rodrigo “Morro” Villegas, 19, of North Hoover Road in Durham. Thursday, Durham police issued warrants against Villegas for first-degree murder in the Feb. 26 shooting death of Alejandro Emir Denis-Terron, 17.

The three might be in a white van and either headed to Mexico or still in the Durham area.

Joanna and Angel were both described as Hispanic.

Investigators said they have no indications of danger other than the age of the mother and that they could be traveling with a man wanted for murder.

Anyone with information on Joanna and Angel should call Investigator Tina Painter or Sgt. Troy Comar, of the Orange County Sheriff's Office, at 919-644-3050.

Anyone with information on Villegas should call Durham Police at 919-560-444, ext. 274, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
