RALEIGH, N.C. — The shipping company, LaserShip, is investigating itself after dozens of customers reported missing packages. In fact, customers have reported a particular item is disappearing in exactly the same way.

LaserShip, which ships packages from Amazon, Walmart and Nike, claims to be the leader in last-mile delivery. However, two Raleigh men claim rare items keep disappearing while in the company's possession.

Brad Smith owns nearly three dozen pairs of sneakers.

"I like collecting sneakers. I wear them, so it’s something fun to do," he said.

Recently, one of the rare pairs of sneakers he bought online from Nike disappeared in transit.

"These sneakers are sold out so the only way to get them now is to pay two-to-three times the resale," said Smith.

LaserShip lost Smith’s package, but they didn’t offer an explanation and told him to contact Nike.

"The Nike rep was like, you’re probably the 20th person today to call me on these types of things," Smith said.

The exact same thing happened to Scott Payne.

"I bought these as a gift, they sold out two minutes after they went on sale," said Payne about a pair of shoes. "I can’t buy another pair of them."

Payne ordered the shoes for his sister’s birthday, but LaserShip lost them in transit.

"I was able to call Nike and get a refund for the shoes, which was also kinda surprising because Nike didn’t ask any question," said Payne.

In the last six months, there have been 18 complaints submitted to the North Carolina Attorney General Office. All but one of the complaints are about limited, high dollar Nike shoes not being delivered.

Many of those complaints also accuse LaserShip employees of stealing these packages.

"When one shipment gets lost, that’s a coincidence," Payne said. "When dozens of shipments get lost, that’s a conspiracy."

LaserShip initially told 5 On Your Side their "top priority is and has always been our customers, and we share their frustration with delayed or missing packages. Our team is working hard to ensure packages move through our network as quickly and securely as possible."

But when 5 On Your Side questioned Lasership about the claims that employees were stealing packages, the company said they had contracted an outside investigator to figure out how the packages have gone missing and to stop it from happening again.

I’d like to see LaserShip take some level of accountability," said Smith. "LaserShip just needs to do the right thing."

5 On Your Side also reached out to Nike multiple times for comment, but have not gotten a response.
