CARY, N.C. — Police said that a missing Dunn woman who had last been seen in Cary was found safe Sunday morning.

Viola Mae Pressley, 53, was found in Dunn by her family, Cary police said. She was unharmed.

A Silver Alert had been issued late Saturday for Pressley, who suffers from a cognitive impairment, after her niece reported her as missing.

Pressley had last been seen walking east from Perpetua African Hair Braiding at 8561 Chapel Hill Road in Cary around 3 p.m. Saturday.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system that quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
