Minor injuries after Amtrak train strikes 18-wheeler in Jamestown
Authorities said the train struck the trailer as the vehicle crossed the tracks. The impaced caused the trailer, which was carrying 30,000 pounds of limestone, to split.
Posted — UpdatedJAMESTOWN, N.C. — Several passengers suffered minor injuries when an Amtrak train struck a tractor-trailer Thursday afternoon in Jamestown, authorities said.
State Highway Patrol told WFMY News 2 in Greensboro that the crash happened about 1:30 p.m. when the train hit the truck’s trailer as the vehicle crossed the tracks on Dillion Road.
The impact caused the trailer, which was carrying 30,000 pounds of limestone, to split, according to Trooper Greg Ingram.
Guilford County EMS transported three people with minor injuries. It was unclear whether one of them was the rig’s driver.
Amtrak spokesperson Danelle Hunter said 64 passengers were aboard the Piedmont train, which was traveling from Charlotte to Raleigh. The passengers were being bused to their final destinations.
