A temperate weekend is on tap across central North Carolina after a week of dreary skies and below-normal cold,

"The weather has finally taken a turn in our favor," WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson said. "All through this past week, we had frozen rain. Weather wise, we'd just like to forget it."

The next seven days will be more on par with normal for this time of year, with highs in the 50s and even the overnight lows not dipping past the freezing mark.

Friday and Saturday will be mostly clear, but Sunday includes a chance for light, patchy showers, especially in the morning. In the Triangle area, rainfall is forecast to be a tenth of an inch or less.

Monday, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, looks "fantastic" with a high of 52, Johnson said.

"Please get out and enjoy this nice weather," he said. "We've been cooped up at home for the last four days."
