Michigan pastor pitches tent in protest in Garner
Mike Tupper, pastor of Parchment United Methodist Church, in Michigan, pitched a tent in protest Friday night in the Triangle.
Posted — UpdatedTupper plans to camp out overnight outside of the North Carolina United Methodist Conference Center in Garner.
Tupper faces a possible church trial for performing a same-sex wedding.
"The Lord laid it on my heart that I am supposed to sleep outside in this tent," he said. "As a way of witnessing how our church is treating LGBTQ people, that they are pushing them outside the doors of our church."
Tupper has spent a total of 102 nights camping out in front of different conference offices around the country. The United Methodist Church does not support same-sex marriage, however, in a written statement to WRAL News, the church pointed to its Book of Discipline, which encourages churches to not condemn members of the LGBTQ community.
