TARBORO, N.C. — A company that produces metal roofing and other building components plans to expand its Edgecombe County operations, officials said Wednesday.

Nash Building Systems Inc. will create 29 jobs and invest $2.2 million over the next three years in Tarboro. The company already employs more than 10 people.

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $37,286, plus benefits, which is higher than Edgecombe County's average of $34,660.

“Our business continues to grow even in these tough economic times,” Brent Nash Jr., president of Nash Building Systems, said in a statement. “The strong agricultural community and our product mix has helped fuel that growth."

The company qualified for a $100,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assistance to economic development projects. Companies receive no upfront money and must meet job and investment targets to obtain the funds.

Nash Building Systems predecessor Nashco Inc. started erecting steel buildings more than 25 years ago. After the construction market slowed in 2008, Nashco moved into manufacturing metal building components.
