North Raleigh moms Kaitlan Phelps and Velvet Baker didn't waste any time when they first started talking about opening up a high-end children's consignment store.

The first discussion was in September. Their store, called Babiology, opened Nov. 6.

"We sat down and in ten minutes we decided we were serious and we were going to take a stab at it," said Baker, the mom of two girls.

Baker and Phelps, the mom of a 2-year-old boy, have filled their store with trendy, high-end gently used fashions for kids and new handmade products including several lines made by local moms. And while they favor boutique-style clothes, you'll also find some Target, Carter's and other everyday brands ... as long as it meets their discriminating eyes.

The store also carries an extensive line of cloth diapers.

And when you step into the store with its cute black-and-white photos of kids, clean lines and giant puff ball lights on the ceiling (at least that's what they remind me of), you can tell that both Baker and Phelps worked in interior design in a previous life.

The store on Fairview Road in Raleigh's Five Points is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Cotton the Clown performs free shows at the store at 10:15 a.m. on Fridays. Phelps and Baker are working to organize more regular events, including a series with a doula.

And stay tuned to Go Ask Mom in the next few weeks for more details about an event we'll be working together on with Babiology!
