WRAL TV

Meet our employees of the year

Robert Meikle

Every year, WRAL-TV employees gather for a special ceremony to see who wins the “WRAL 5-Star Award,” which honors an exemplary employee of the year.

The award is special because the winner is selected by a committee of WRAL staff members who read through nomination letters from fellow employees.

Photographer Robert Meikle is this year’s winner. He received a plaque, a check and a cookie cake. Nomination letters described him as a “smiling, humble, passionate, creative genius.”

This marked the 27th year that the honor was given. Anchor Kelcey Carlson received the prestigious award last year.

Not to be outdone, WRAL.com unveiled its own employee award this year called the “Diesel Award,” named for our content management system.

Senior software developer Rusty Kroboth is our first-ever winner and was also nominated by his peers. He has been instrumental in designing and improving GOLO, Out & About and our election coverage.

By the way, Rusty was featured in a previous "Inside WRAL" blog, which you can read here. He also has a GOLO profile, so feel free to leave him a nice note!

And finally, our News Over Wireless division honored software architect Bill Davis as its employee of the year with the “WOW Award.”

Bill and his group work with broadcasters and wireless phone carriers to provide news and information on mobile phones through video channels, downloadable applications and mobile web sites.

Please join me in congratulating these great guys who work behind the scenes to make our company great.
