Mebane man charged in bank robbery

Mebane police have arrested a man in connection with a bank robbery on Monday.

MEBANE, N.C. — Mebane police have arrested a man in connection with a bank robbery on Monday.

John Ronald Elixson, 40, of 2417 U.S. Highway 70 Lot 34 in Mebane, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was placed in the Alamance County jail under a $250,000 secured bond.

Police said that a man entered Fidelity Bank, 1296 S. Fifth St., around 11 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the man left through the front door. He was last seen running through the parking lot toward a nearby Subway restaurant.

No one was injured in the robbery, police said.

Police said they were continuing to investigate the case. Anyone with information about the bank robbery is asked to call Mebane police at 919-563-9031.
